SIMBAVATI CEDERBERG RIDGE
The Cederberg in
Bloom…
There are few things more breathtaking than the Cederberg in bloom. Each year, as winter recedes and the air turns warmer, a quiet transformation begins across this rugged, ochre-toned landscape.
From late July through to mid-September, the Cederberg bursts into colour as wildflowers carpet the valleys and mountain slopes. When you stay at Simbavati Cederberg Ridge, you’re in the ideal location to explore not only the wildflower hotspots around Clanwilliam, but also the spectacular displays found throughout the wider Cederberg region.
Where Can I See the Flowers?

Clanwilliam has three popular hotspots for viewing the Spring Flowers during the middle of July through to mid-September. These three destinations can be visited on a day trip from Simbavati Cederberg Ridge.
Biedouw Valley: A Hidden Canvas of Colour
Tucked between the Pakhuis Pass and the Tankwa Karoo lies one of the most iconic wildflower valleys in South Africa. The Biedouw Valley transforms into a floral masterpiece each spring, with an explosion of orange Namaqualand daisies, magenta vygies, yellow senecios, and deep purple nemesias.
Ramskop Nature Reserve: Flowers with a View
If you’re looking for accessible beauty, Ramskop Nature Reserve in Clanwilliam is a must. Just 11 minutes (7.5km) from Simbavati Cederberg Ridge, this 66-hectare reserve boasts a walking trail that weaves through a botanical showcase of over 300 wildflower species. The flower display at Ramskop Nature Reserve is best viewed in the afternoon.
Botterboom Area: The Underrated Gem
Often overlooked but no less rewarding, the Botterboom area between Klawer and Vanrhynsdorp offers a different kind of flower-viewing experience. Think wide open plains covered in pastel daisies, punctuated by fleshy, sculptural succulents and the namesake botterboom (butter tree), a member of the aloe family known for its buttery-hued bark and thick, green leaves.
If you’d like to include a day trip to the West Coast or Nieuwoudtville, our team at the lodge will be happy to provide more information.
