This eco- paradise awaits…
Situated in the Greater Knysna Area, above the quaint town of Sedgefield, along South Africa’s Garden Route, this eco paradise awaits, offering sweeping views over beaches, mountains, lagoons and a fynbos wonderland.
Our nine room lodge and self-contained cottage are perched high on the dunes overlooking the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a 600 hectare pristine fynbos reserve. The estate abounds with plains game such as eland, zebra, bushbuck and waterbuck so there is plenty to see in all directions.
Immerse yourself in scenery to revive both mind and soul. Sedgefield has a tortoise as its emblem to remind visitors of the joy of ‘slow travel’. So meander along our nature trails, lie and watch the clouds or sit with binoculars. Enjoy a picnic or sundowners overlooking Gerickes Point. When you fancy a change of pace, take a mountain bike and choose from a variety of off-road trails.
Close to but off our own property, discover lovely fossil dunes and beaches, kayak on the Swartvlei and Sedgefield lagoons, visit the neighbouring protea farm. In summer at low tide, snorkelling in the rockpools can be a treat. More excitement still? This area is a big draw for advanced paragliding. Whilst invigorating sunrises and romantic sunsets will make this an unforgettable stay.

The Need to Knows
Top Reasons to Visit
The setting is unexpected and truly spectacular. The town of Sedgefield lies far below in adjacent to the lake. But Fynbos is up on a headland above the town.
To the north of the lodge are the Outeniqua Mountains with the lakes that the Garden Route is known for shimmering with light below you. To the east and south of the lodge lies the Indian Ocean with a lovely view of the sandy Goukamma Beach and the endless rolling waves. And to the west lies the natural fynbos of this verdant area, which is particularly rewarding in the spring and early summer months.
Everywhere you look there are views to enjoy.
Adventurous and Memorable Experiences
There is an array of activities and excursions to enjoy from the exhilarating to the leisurely. These take place both on the estate or nearby.
On the estate, enjoy guided or self-guided walking, guided mountain-biking to suit all abilities, fynbos nature drives and visits to the protea farm. And, of course, sundowners at unique locations.
Our activity centre also opens the door to activities on the lakes and rivers with canoeing, kayaking and boating. Finally Fynbos on Sea offers one of the best paragliding settings on the whole of the Garden Route.
We’re all about sustainable sourcing and conscious consumption at Simbavati Fynbos on Sea. We focus on making delicious food that is home made, healthy, locally sourced and full of flavour. We gain inspiration from our natural surroundings with all its scents, textures and tastes. Our food is diverse, contemporary and creative to connect guests on an emotional level.
The unique setting of Fynbos on Sea is a natural drawcard for all romantics. Enjoy special moments such as canapes and sundowners overlooking Gericke’s Point. Or a private picnic overlooking the mountains within our Fynbos Reserve. Wake up early to experience the sunrise overlooking the ocean, mountains and lakes.
These are memories that will stay with you forever.
