Simbavati River Lodge

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is a rich wildlife concession that borders on the western side of the Kruger National Park, forming a unique combination of public and private land called "The Greater Kruger Park".

There are no fences between the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve and The Kruger National Park allowing free movement of wildlife between the two Reserves.

Simbavati River Lodge is situated in the northern sector of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which was previously known as Gomo Gomo.

Getting there by air

There are daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg International Airport to Hoedspruit Airport and two flights per week from Cape Town International Airport to Hoedspruit Airport. Transfers from the airport to the lodge takes approximately 1 hour and must be booked separately.

Getting there by road

Simbavati River Lodge is approximately a 7 hour drive from Johannesburg.

Follow the tar road from the Eastgate Airport/Timbavati turn-off for 44 km straight to the Simbavati turn-off. (GPRS coordinates for the Simbavati turn-off: S 24° 12’ 20.2” E 31° 19’ 24.2”). Turn right onto the dirt road and follow the lion footprints for approximately 6.4 km to the lodge. On the tar road you will go through 2 control gates. At the second gate you enter the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve where you will pay a Vehicle Entrance Fee of R 120.00 per vehicle. Keep your permit, as the Lodge will issue you with an exit permit when you return again.

Conservation Fee Compulsory

The Lodge will collect R150.00 per person for Conservation Fees on behalf of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.

VERY IMPORTANT

Please do not arrive at the Lodge late, as you will then miss the afternoon/evening game drive and lunch, which we do not serve later than 16h00.  It is also safer not to drive in the reserve and arrive at the Lodge when it is dark. If you are going to be late due to unforeseen circumstances, please let us know on 015- 793 9051/3.

Our summer and winter game drive times are as follows:

Beginning September – end April:
Morning drive: 06h00 - 09h30
Afternoon/evening drive: 16h00 - 19h30

Beginning May – end August: 
Morning drive: 06h30 - 10h00 
Afternoon/evening drive: 15h30 - 19h00

The return times of the drives may change depending on what amazing animals you might see!
